Why traders need a risk reward ratio calculator

When the risk on a trade is bigger than the reward, a few losses can blow up an account in a short time. Risk Reward Ratio Calculator shows you both numbers before you place the trade.

I set my stop and my target by feel, so I never know if the reward is actually worth the risk until the trade is over.
My target looked big, but my stop was even further away. I was risking more than I could ever make on the trade.
I win more than half of my trades and still lose money, because my losing trades are bigger than my winning ones.
I don't know what win rate a 1:2 trade needs, so I can't tell whether my strategy should make money.
Working out the ratio with my phone's calculator takes three steps, and I skip it when the market moves fast.
I trade stocks, forex and crypto, and I want one quick check that works the same way for all three.

Trader feedback on Risk Reward Ratio Calculator

I stopped taking bad trades

I used to jump into anything that looked like a breakout. Now I type the entry, target and stop before every trade, and if the ratio comes back under 1:2 I skip it. My month ended green for the first time in a while, and I'm pretty sure this habit is the reason.

Faster than doing it in my head

I tried working out the ratio in my head during market hours and got it wrong more than once. The app shows the ratio and the breakeven win rate the moment I tap Calculate. The whole check takes about five seconds.

The breakeven number changed my trading

I win around 40% of my trades and always thought that was my problem. The breakeven calculator showed me that a 1:2 trade only needs about 33% to break even. I kept my win rate, moved my targets further out, and the account has been growing slowly ever since.

Risk and reward finally made sense

I'm still learning, and nobody explained risk to reward in a way that stuck until I started using this. Seeing 1.0 : 3.00 next to a 25% breakeven made it click. I check every trade idea here before I put any money in.

Quick checks at 2 a.m.

Crypto moves at strange hours and I don't want to open a spreadsheet in the middle of the night. I open the app, type three prices and know straight away if the setup is worth it. My losing trades are smaller than my winners now, which is exactly what I was missing.

Clean and simple

Two calculators, big input fields and nothing else in the way. It opens fast and does its job well. I've tried apps with twenty features I never touched, and this is the one I kept on my phone.

Every order gets checked now

My rule is no order until the ratio is at least 1:2. The app makes that rule easy to keep because the check is quicker than placing the order. My profit factor is better this year than last, and this routine is the only thing I changed.

Handy for gold and crude

Commodity stops need room, so the target has to be far enough away to make the trade worth taking. I type the three prices and the ratio tells me right away. There are trades I used to take that I now pass on, and my results are better for it.

Set up in under a minute

I trade around a day job and don't have time to create accounts. I installed it, opened the calculator and had my first ratio in less than a minute. It's been on my home screen ever since.

Risk Reward Ratio Calculator features

Two calculators share one home screen. Yellow is for the risk:reward ratio and slate with teal is for the breakeven win rate, so you always know which one you have open.

Duo calculators on one split screen

The home screen is split down the middle. The yellow half opens the Risk Reward Ratio calculator and the slate half opens the Breakeven Win Rate (%) calculator, each with its own Open button.

  • One tap opens either calculator
  • The colours match the calculator, so you never mix them up
  • Each half carries its own name and Open button
The Risk Reward Ratio screen under the caption Easy to Calculate. Entry Price reads 100, Exit Price 110 and Stoploss Price 98, above a dark Calculate button.

Three prices are all it takes

Type the price you plan to enter at, the price you plan to take profit at and your stop-loss price, then tap Calculate. If a field is empty, the app asks you to fill all fields instead of showing a wrong answer.

  • Entry Price, Exit Price and Stoploss Price
  • Risk is the gap between entry and stop-loss
  • Reward is the gap between entry and exit

The ratio and the breakeven win rate together

One result box shows the risk:reward ratio and the win rate that ratio needs to break even. In the app's own screenshot, an entry of 100, a target of 110 and a stop of 98 risk 2 to make 10. The app shows 1.0 : 5.00 and a breakeven win rate of 16.67%.

  • The ratio is shown against a risk of 1, so 1.0 : 5.00 means five for every one you risk
  • Two decimal places on every result
  • Close the box and change a price to try another setup
The Breakeven Win Rate (%) screen under the caption Quick Input Taker. Risk reads 5 and Reward reads 10, above a teal Calculate button.

A breakeven calculator as a bonus

Already know your risk and reward in money, points or pips? The second calculator skips the prices. Type the Risk and the Reward, tap Calculate and read the win rate you need to break even.

  • Two inputs: Risk and Reward
  • Works with any unit, as long as both use the same one
  • Useful for checking a whole strategy, not just one trade

Two calculators in one app

Pick the calculator that matches what you know: three prices for one trade, or a risk and a reward amount for a whole strategy. Both answer in a single tap.

Risk Reward Ratio

Entry · Exit · Stop-loss → Ratio · Breakeven %

Enter the price you plan to enter at, your profit target and your stop-loss. The app compares what the trade can lose with what it can make and shows the ratio, such as 1.0 : 5.00, together with the breakeven win rate for that trade. Check it before every trade and skip setups where the risk outweighs the reward.

Breakeven Win Rate (%)

Risk · Reward → Breakeven %

Already know your risk and your reward as an amount, in points or in pips? Enter the two numbers and the app shows the percentage of trades you need to win to break even. Use it to see whether your strategy's win rate can support the targets you set.

One check for every market you trade

The calculators only need prices or amounts, so they work the same way for stock market, forex, cryptocurrency and commodity trades, whether you hold for minutes or for months.

Check the trade before you place it

These three steps take less time than placing the order itself.

  1. Plan the three prices

Decide where you will enter, where you will take profit and where your stop-loss goes. Put the stop where the trade idea is proven wrong, not where the ratio looks best.

  2. Enter them and tap Calculate

Open the Risk Reward Ratio calculator, type the Entry Price, Exit Price and Stoploss Price and tap Calculate. The ratio and the breakeven win rate appear together.

If you already know the risk and reward amounts, use the Breakeven Win Rate calculator.

  3. Compare it with your win rate

Look at how often your setups actually win. If that number is well above the breakeven win rate, the trade fits your strategy. If it is below, rethink the target, the stop or the trade.

The app shows the numbers. The decision to trade stays with you.

Frequently asked questions about risk and reward

What does the Risk Reward Ratio Calculator app do?

Risk Reward Ratio Calculator is a mobile app for Android and iPhone with two calculators. The Risk Reward Ratio calculator takes the entry, exit and stop-loss price of a trade and shows its risk:reward ratio and its breakeven win rate. The Breakeven Win Rate calculator takes a risk amount and a reward amount and shows the win rate you need to break even. VSB DEVS makes the app.

What is a risk reward ratio in trading?

The risk reward ratio compares how much a trade can lose with how much it can make. The risk is the distance from your entry to your stop-loss and the reward is the distance from your entry to your target. A trade that risks 2 to make 10 has a risk:reward ratio of 1:5.

How do I calculate the risk reward ratio?

Subtract the stop-loss price from the entry price to get the risk, and subtract the entry price from the exit price to get the reward. Then divide the reward by the risk. For an entry of 100, a target of 110 and a stop-loss of 98, the risk is 2, the reward is 10 and the ratio is 1:5. The app does this when you tap Calculate.

What is a breakeven win rate?

The breakeven win rate is the percentage of trades you must win so that your winning trades exactly cover your losing trades. Below that win rate a strategy loses money over time and above it the strategy makes money, before fees and slippage.

How is the breakeven win rate calculated?

Divide the risk by the sum of the risk and the reward, then multiply by 100. A trade that risks 2 to make 10 needs 2 ÷ 12 × 100, which is 16.67%. A 1:1 trade needs 50%, a 1:2 trade needs 33.33% and a 1:3 trade needs 25%.

What is a good risk reward ratio?

There is no single right number because a good ratio depends on how often your trades win. A 1:2 trade only needs to win 33.33% of the time to break even, while a 1:1 trade needs 50%. A ratio is worth taking when your real win rate for that setup is clearly above its breakeven win rate.

Why does the app show the ratio as 1.0 : 5.00?

The app scales the ratio so that the risk is always 1. That way you can read the reward side directly as how many units you stand to make for every unit you risk. 1.0 : 5.00 means the possible reward is five times the risk.

What is the difference between the two calculators?

The Risk Reward Ratio calculator works from three prices (entry, exit and stop-loss) and returns both the ratio and the breakeven win rate. The Breakeven Win Rate calculator skips the prices and works from a risk amount and a reward amount, which is handy when you already think in money, points or pips.

Does the calculator work for stocks, forex, crypto and commodities?

Yes. The calculators only need prices or amounts, so they work for stocks and indices, currency pairs like EUR/USD, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and commodities like gold and crude oil. They work the same for short-term and long-term trades.

Does the breakeven win rate include trading fees?

No. The app uses only the numbers you enter. To allow for fees, spread or slippage, add them to the risk and take them off the reward before you calculate, and the breakeven win rate will rise to match.

Does the app tell me when to buy or sell?

No. Risk Reward Ratio Calculator works out a ratio and a win rate from the numbers you type. It does not give buy or sell signals, predict price moves or place trades. The results are information and not financial advice. Every trading decision stays with you.

Do I need an account to use Risk Reward Ratio Calculator?

No. The app has no sign-up screen and no login. You can install it from Google Play or the App Store, open a calculator and start typing numbers.

Is Risk Reward Ratio Calculator free?

Yes, the app is free to download and use. To keep it free, the app shows ads. An optional Unlock All Content subscription, billed through Google Play or the App Store, removes them.

Is Risk Reward Ratio Calculator available on Android and iPhone?

Yes. You can download it from Google Play on Android or from the App Store on iPhone.

Not financial advice

Risk Reward Ratio Calculator turns the prices and amounts you enter into a risk:reward ratio and a breakeven win rate by applying standard arithmetic. These results are not financial, investment, tax or trading advice and they are not a recommendation to buy, sell or hold anything.

A good ratio does not make a trade safe. Trading stocks, forex, commodities or crypto carries real risk, including the risk of losing all the money you invest, and a stop-loss can fill at a worse price than the one you planned. A single typing mistake changes the result, so check your numbers before you act on them. You are responsible for every trade you place. The Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy explain this in full.
